Godmodding, Mary Sues, and Metagaming
Godmodding, Mary Sues, and metagaming will not be tolerated. This page will go into detail what each of these three things are. It will also outline what to do if you have been a victim of these, and what we as moderators will do about it.
Godmodding
A basic definition of godmodding is posting in such a way where you say how another character reacts to things. It takes away other roleplayers’ chances to develop their character. You are taking away your fellow roleplayers' right to play their character the way they want to.
The following is an example of godmodding:
“Sectumsempra! *the spell hits him in the arm and blood begins seeping out*”
This is godmodding because you are not giving the other roleplayer a chance to decide if the spell hits or not. Roleplayers have the right to dodge or defend themselves. By saying the spell hit, you are taking that away from them. Here is a better way to phrase this:
“Sectumsempra! *aims her wand at his arm*”
Godmodding can be subtle or it can be blatant. We ask that you try very hard not to godmod. Chances are all of us have godmodded at one point. If someone godmods you, please tell them they are. If they continue to do it, talk to an admin.

Mary Sues
A Mary Sue is a character who seems to be invincible. S/he can perform magic above their ability. They seem to never be hit by spells. Mary Sues are not allowed because mainly because it takes away the fun of roleplaying when another character is never hit by a spell. Another reason is because these characters are unbelievable. Characters who are invincible and perfect are unrealistic.
Some examples of Mary Sues include, but are not limited to:
1. Students being Animagi. This will not happen. Becoming an Animagus is very advanced magic. It takes time and it is regulated by the Ministry.
2. Students being able to perform Legilimency or Occlumency.
3. Students being able to resist the Imperius Curse right away. It is hard to resist it. It takes a lot of time and energy to learn to resist it.
4. Students being able to perform wandless or wordless magic. Students don’t learn to perform silent spells until 6th year. Very few witches and wizards can perform wandless magic on a consistent basis.
5. Characters who are never hit by spells. Very few people could go through a duel and not get hit at least a couple times.

Metagaming
Metagaming is using out-of-game knowledge in-game. In other words, your character knows something that they shouldn't know. When you roleplay, you know everything that goes on in the game if you follow scenes. This does not mean that your character knows. Your character only knows what they witness or what they are told. If your character has not been told something, they do not know it. You can not use your own knowledge while roleplaying your character.
What Should You Do if You've Been a Victim of These?
The first thing you should do if you've been godmodded or metagamed, or you see a Mary Sue is talk to the person politely. When you are confronting someone, please be respectful. Do not put them on the defensive. Say it in a civil way. They are more likely to listen to you. If it continues, email the game moderators. Please describe what happened and please provide a screenshot or link to the offense. If we don't have proof, there is nothing we can do about it.
What will the Moderators Do?
When we get an email about godmodding, Mary Sues, or metagaming. We will first take a look at the offense and determine if it warrants correction, depending on the severity. If it does, we will speak with the offending roleplayer privately. If we get a second major offense, we will, again speak with roleplayer. The roleplayer will be then placed on "probation." We will monitor their roleplaying. If we get a third major offense, we reserve the right to take privileges away. A forth major offense will result in being banned from the game.
Minor offenses won't count towards this policy. Godmodding, especially, is easy to accidentally do. We believe in giving everyone a chance to correct themselves. Four minor offenses will equal one major offense. Banning will be a last resort. We hope it will not happen.
